How to Disable SMS on Android (with Pictures) - wikiHow

There are times when you definitely don't want to be interrupted by a text message on your phone. You can disable the SMS text feature using simple controls in the phone.
STEPS

CLICK ON THE "TEXT" FEATURE FROM THE HOME SCREEN ON YOUR ANDROID.

HIT THE MENU BUTTON FROM THE TEXT SCREEN. The menu will appear at the bottom of the screen. Select "messaging settings."

UNCHECK THE "AUTO-RETRIEVE" OPTION AT THE TOP OF THE SETTINGS SCREEN.

SCROLL DOWN, AND THEN UNCHECK "NOTIFICATIONS" TOWARDS THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN.

Don't forget to turn the text messaging back on when you need it.

If you're shutting down the standard SMS app on your phone to get a custom app, make sure you activate auto retrieval in the new app.
