How to Import Contacts from Gmail to Your iPhone: 12 Steps

Importing your contacts from Google is a fairly straightforward process now that Google has introduced CardDAV, which will let you sync your iPhone's Contacts app with Google Contacts. This article will show you how to do it.
STEPS
METHOD 1 OF 2: USING CARDDAV

OPEN SETTINGS. Tap the "Settings" icon, usually located on your Home screen.

TAP MAIL, CONTACTS, CALENDARS. In the Settings control panel, scroll down and locate "Mail, Contacts, Calendars," and tap to open its control panel.

TAP ADD ACCOUNT. This will take you to the list of account types you can add. Scroll to the bottom of the list, and then tap "Other"

TAP ADD CARDDAV ACCOUNT. In the "Other" control panel, locate "Add CardDAV Account" and tap it to open the CardDAV panel. Enter the information as follows:
Server: Enter "google.com"
User Name: Enter your full Google Account or Google Apps email address
Password: Enter your Google Account or Google Apps password. Note that if you have turned on 2-step verification, you will have to create and enter an application-specific password.
Description: Enter a description of the new account. For example, "Gmail Contacts."

TAP DONE. It's located at the top right of the CardDAV control panel. It will verify your information. When you next open Contacts, syncing will begin automatically.[1]
METHOD 2 OF 2: USING GOOGLE SYNC WITH IOS 6

OPEN SETTINGS. Tap the "Settings" icon, usually located on your Home screen.

ADD AN ACCOUNT. In the Settings control panel, scroll down and locate "Mail, Contacts, Calendars," tap to open its control panel, then "Add Account…"

SELECT MICROSOFT EXCHANGE. From the list of accounts you can add, Select "Microsoft Exchange," located near the top of the screen.

SET UP YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION. In the Exchange control panel, enter the required information as follows:
Email: Enter your full Google Account email address
Password: Enter your Google Account password.
Description: Enter a description of the new account. For example, "Gmail Contacts."
Tap Next. It's located at the top right of the Exchange control panel.

ENTER THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IN THE SECOND SCREEN, AS SHOWN:
Server: Enter "m.google.com"
Domain: Leave blank
Username: Your Gmail address
Password: Your Gmail account password.
Press Save at the top right of the screen.

ENABLE MAIL AT THE TOP OF THE NEXT SCREEN, MAKE SURE THE TOGGLE FOR MAIL IS FLIPPED TO ON.
TIPS
If you have problems syncing your contacts, log into your Gmail account. You might need to acknowledge an "Unusual sign-in location" prompt to enable syncing.
WARNINGS
Syncing with CardDAV is only available over SSL on iOS 5 or later. If you use Google Apps for Business, Education, and Government, use Google Sync.
