3 Ways to Use Apple Maps

Unsure how to use the new Apple Maps app that replaced Google Maps on Apple devices? This guide is for you.
STEPS
METHOD 1 OF 3: FIND A LOCATION

1
OPEN APPLE MAPS AND TYPE IN AN ADDRESS OR THE NAME OF A LOCATION INTO THE SEARCH BAR. This can be anything as specific as an address to as vague as an entire city. Click “Search”.

2
IF THERE IS MORE THAN ONE APPLICABLE RESULT, MULTIPLE PINS WILL DROP. To explore a specific location some more, simply tap a pin and click the right arrow that pops up.
If this is a retail location, you can even look at Yelp reviews and photos directly within the app.

3
IF YOU WOULD TO IMMEDIATELY SEARCH DIRECTIONS TO THAT PLACE FROM YOUR CURRENT LOCATION, SIMPLY CLICK ON THE “INFO” TAB AND CLICK “DIRECTIONS TO HERE”. Then, click “Route”.
METHOD 2 OF 3: GET DIRECTIONS

1
CLICK ON THE ARROW BUTTON NEXT TO THE SEARCH BAR.

2
ADJUST THE STARTING LOCATION. The start location is automatically set to your current location; if you would like your directions to start elsewhere, simply erase that option and type in your location of choice.

3
TYPE YOUR ENDING LOCATION.
If you would like to switch the starting and ending locations (for example, if you are finding your way back), click on the squiggly arrow button next to the locations.

If you would like to get walking or transit directions, click on the button of a person or a bus, respectively. These buttons are at the top of the page.

4
CLICK “ROUTE”. This will give you a bird’s-eye overview of the path, from which you can zoom in and out.
5
CLICK ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER TO REVEAL FURTHER OPTIONS:
Click “Print” to print out your directions from a nearby AirPrint printer.
Click “Show Traffic” to view nearby highways and roads with heavy traffic.
Click “Standard”, “Hybrid”, or “Satellite” to change the map view. Standard will give you just the roads, Satellite will give you a satellite view with buildings and greenery, and Hybrid will give you a mix of the two.

6
CLICK ON THE OPTIONS ON THE BOTTOM LEFT TO ADJUST YOUR VIEWING EXPERIENCE.
Click on the arrow to view your current location.
Click on the icon to view the buildings in 3D. Apple maps imaging is created using vector tiles, allowing you to see the images from various angles.
Click on the bulleted list button to view your directions in list form.

METHOD 3 OF 3: GET TURN-BY-TURN DIRECTIONS

1
SEARCH DIRECTIONS USING THE SAME METHOD AS ABOVE.

2
CLICK “START” IN THE TOP RIGHT CORNER.
3
START DRIVING! Once you complete one instruction, your phone will automatically give you the next one.
